On May 8, 2026, the final steel box girder segment was successfully hoisted and welded into place, marking the closure of the Ziyang Tuojiang River Bridge-a key control project of the Chengdu-Dazhou-Wanzhou High-Speed Railway (Chengda-Wan HSR). This milestone has laid a solid foundation for the railway to open on schedule.

The Ziyang Tuojiang River Bridge has a total length of approximately 1,606 meters. The main bridge is a steel-concrete hybrid girder cable-stayed bridge with a twin-tower, double-cable-plane design and double-column pylon structures. It features a main span of 320 meters, with both pylons standing 112.5 meters tall, and the deck is situated 65 meters above the Tuojiang River. Throughout the construction process, the project faced multiple challenges, including complex construction techniques, high-altitude operation risks, and the difficulty of geometric control for long-span cable-stayed bridges.

Tuojiang River Mega Bridge completes closure

The closure steel box girder segment, measuring 10 meters in length, 16.2 meters in width, and 5.25 meters in height, with a total weight of 171 tonnes, was hoisted by a Boyoun form traveler.
